Dr Sylvia Forchap Likambi. Pharm D, PhD

The organisation was founded by Dr Sylvia Forchap Likambi, a charismatic and natural female inspirational & motivational thinker and speaker, with a great vision and passion to impact and positively transform the lives and status of disadvantaged women, families and communities.

Dr Forchap is from a black and ethnic minority background and has encountered and experienced some of the challenges faced by most of the women; hence, possess great empathy, passion and desire; coupled with the practical experience and the education to lead the organisation. She also represents a confident, successful and inspired role model for the women and community VON strives to serve; and is currently working on assembling a powerful and talented board of directors which will directly reflect the organisation’s aspirations and serve as role models for our target clients.

Sylvia is currently the Chief Executive Officer and driving force behind the organization. She grew up in Cameroon (West of Africa) where she obtained her GCE Advance level and later on moved to Italy where she earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in the University Ferrara Italy. She went further to obtain a PhD degree in the same University, during which period she was awarded a scholarship by the Italian Ministry of Higher Education and Research for excellence. Sylvia was also awarded the Australian- Europe Scholarships to undertake a year of her PhD Project in collaboration with the University of Sydney (Nepean Hospital), in Australia.

At the end of her PhD, she then worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Italy for a year, after which she was offered a job as Post Doctoral Researcher, at the University of Liverpool (Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine, Royal Liverpool University Hospital). In the course of her studies and research, she has gained and developed profound knowledge of different cultures and languages, as well as developed a comprehensive network of personal and professional contacts with key academic/ community leaders nationwide and abroad. This is instrumental in raising the profile of VON within the community and beyond.

Sylvia has participated immensely in the field of leukaemia research and is author/co-author in a number of publications. During this time, Sylvia has acquired exceptional inter-personal / communication skills, participating and speaking in seminars and conferences nationwide and abroad.

Sylvia also has several years of experience in leadership roles in Cameroon, within the Cameroonian Community in Ferrara (ASCAF) and the Northwest; where she managed, and raised the organisations’ profiles as well as promoted and encouraged the significance of team spirit and inspired people to blossom into their most creative and meaningful life expression; and developed a proactive empowerment program which has become the foundation for VON’s approach to empowerment.
